Seaside course helps budding researchers get their feet wet
As temperatures drop, take a trip to the beach—and visit a UAB course that uses the sunny, sandy Alabama Gulf coast to teach neuroscience. Faculty and students shed light on the subject’s unique links to the sea, and explain how the three-week experience builds knowledge and camaraderie for scientific success.
After graduation, Haley Callahan will pursue her master’s degree in counseling from Northwestern University.

Undergraduate Neuroscience and Psychology Students Honored as Outstanding Women for 2017
Mugdha Mokashi of the Undergraduate Neuroscience Program and Whitney Rice, a postdoc in Psychology, will be honored as Outstanding Women by UAB in a ceremony held during during Women’s History Month.
A new UAB study found no significant difference in driving performance between young adults with autism spectrum disorder and typically developing peers. It's the first lab-driven research on a topic that's gaining in importance as a new generation of teens with ASD reaches driving age.
Aaron Landis will work with researcher Robert Sorge and explore Birmingham as one of the inaugural recipients of the President's Summer Research scholarships.

Third UAB Student Named Rhodes Scholar
Ameen Barghi of the University of Alabama at Birmingham was elected to the Rhodes scholar Class of 2015 on Saturday. He is one of 32 outstanding U.S. students who will start their all-expenses-paid, graduate educations at Oxford University next fall.
