SSWO Serve at Project Homeless Connect 2020
On February 29th the Student Social Work Organization (SSWO) members had the opportunity to work with One Roof, located at 1704 5th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35203, on the Project Homeless Connect 2020 as Smiling Face Client Guides.

As part of this year’s Social Work Month celebration, four BSW students and Dr. Laurel Hitchcock went to Alabama Arise’s Legislative Day on March 19th in Montgomery, AL to learn more about how to advocate for policy change with elected officials.

Dione Moultrie King appointed to diversity council
Dr. Dione Moultrie King was recently appointed to a three-year term on the Council on Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity.
Dr. Stacy Moak was recognized as a Faculty Fellow in Engaged Scholarship on March 23, 2018.
Batey wins CAS interdisciplinary team award
Dr. D. Scott Batey, Assistant Professor of Social Work, and his colleagues have won the UAB College of Arts and Sciences interdisciplinary team award.
Faculty members Batey, King, Lee, Pollio, and Sims of the Department of Social Work participated in the American Public Health Association conference in Atlanta, GA.
Social Work faculty participated in in the Council on Social Work Education’s Annual Program Meeting, the preeminent meeting for social work educators, students, deans, and directors worldwide .

This fall, new faculty members join the Department of Communication Studies, the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Criminal Justice, the Department of English, the Department of Music, the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Social Work, the Department of Sociology, and the Department of Theatre.
