On February 29th the Student Social Work Organization (SSWO) members had the opportunity to work with One Roof, located at 1704 5th Avenue North, Birmingham, AL 35203, on the Project Homeless Connect 2020 as Smiling Face Client Guides.

2020 Social Work Outstanding BSW and MSW Award recipients are Reese Joiner and Joseph Abua.

As part of this year’s Social Work Month celebration, four BSW students and Dr. Laurel Hitchcock went to Alabama Arise’s Legislative Day on March 19th in Montgomery, AL to learn more about how to advocate for policy change with elected officials.

Study abroad in Kenya

A group of social work students who went to Kenya this spring break for study abroad presented their experiences at UAB's Spring EXPO.

Caroline Wood, a social work honors student, presented a poster on her research project titled "Prevalence and Predictors of Antiretoviral Medication Non-Adherence among HIV/HCV Co-infected Patients in Clinical Care."

The UAB Department of Social Work celebrated Social Work Month with students and their families. Grace Dugger, SW Alumni Society President, was the keynote speaker.

BSW Students Caroline Wood and Melody Higgins, along with Dr. Laurel Hitchcock, attended the University of Alabama's School of Social Work DC Fly-In.

A group of social work students who are going to Kenya during Spring Break spent an evening sewing reusable napkins at Bib & Tucker.

NASW annual advocacy day

Thirteen students took this excellent opportunity to practice their policy and advocacy skills, and learn more about how politics work in Alabama.

The Student Social Work Organization sponsored a documentary about the impact of clean water on villages in Kenya.

Student Social Work Organization (SSWO) had a successful goods drive for community organizations in Birmingham. These goods will help our fellow community members who are in need.

The Department of Social Work had a table at the Homecoming 2017 Blazer Village, giving students, faculty and alumni the opportunity to meet and network.

Two officers of Student Social Work Organization (SSWO) participated in Homecoming parade on Friday, October 6, 2017.

On August 31, 2017, the Student Social Work Organization (SSWO) participated in the Student Involvement Fair hosted by UAB Student Involvement and Leadership.
On August 26, 2017, three Student Social Work Organization (SSWO) officers volunteered to help on the Freshmen Move-In Day.
The UAB Department of Social Work will accept applications for Field Placement Spring 2018 from September 15-October 6, 2017.
Social work students served a meal at First Light shelter in Birmingham on Valentine's Day. Students in Dr. Moak's Human Behavior in the Social Environment class partnered with other community members to provide the meal for the day.
