Students Contribute to Creation of Musical at Hip Hop Writing Workshop
UAB students gathered for the "Exploring Racism through Hip Hop" writing workshop at the Department of Theatre's acting studio on Nov. 13 to add their voices to a musical in the works.

Three Chairs Named ICFAD Fellows
Department of Theatre Chair Kelly Dean Allison, Department of Music Chair Patrick Evans, and Department of Art and Art History Chair Lauren Lake have been chosen as fellows for the International Council of Fine Arts Deans (ICFAD).
“Avenue Q” is a hilarious, irreverent, sweetly satiric coming-of-age parable performed by “Muppet”-style puppets alongside human actors.

A New Lead for Musical Theatre at UAB
Valerie Accetta, M.F.A., assistant professor in the Department of Theatre and the head of UAB’s new bachelor of fine arts degree program in musical theatre, has plenty of impressive roles under her belt, from playing romantic lead Margy Frake in the first national tour of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s State Fair to singing baroque opera in Greece.
Alumna Rebecca Harper will direct a new play, “Women of War,” to be presented Nov. 12-15 and Nov. 19-22 by the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Theatre.

Theatre UAB Announces Bold New Season for 2014-2015
This season the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Theatre will tackle weighty and witty plays on race relations, warfare and sexual liberation, along with a coming-of-age musical puppet parable and the annual Festival of 10-Minute Plays.
