UAB Receives Prestigious NSF Scholarship for Service Bolster the Nation’s Cybersecurity Workforce
UAB receives prestigious NSF Scholarship for Service grant to help bolster the nation’s cybersecurity workforce The $2.1 million grant from the National Science Foundation will provide cybersecurity scholarships to graduate students in exchange for their service with local, state or federal organizations upon graduation.
Adjunct Professor Matthew Bryant will perform at the Root Signals Electronic Music Festival, and music technology senior Drew Romanowski’s piece “Eatit-n-Leave” was accepted and will be presented at the National Student Electronic Music Event.

Writer, Composer and Performer Daniel Beaty Recipient of the 2017 Ireland Distinguished Visiting Scholar Award
Beaty will speak and perform his 2006 critically acclaimed, off-Broadway solo play, “Emergency,” at 4 p.m. Friday, March 10, in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Young Alumni Win Regional Emmy
Kourtney Cowart and Michael Shikany, who both graduated in December 2015 with degrees in Communication Studies, were honored with a Midsouth Regional Emmy for their documentary, “Ever Faithful—The Resurrection of UAB Football” at the 31st Annual awards ceremony on January 21, 2017.
GlobalXplorer is a citizen science archaeology platform that's "Indiana Jones meets Google Earth." The platform was created in collaboration with the National Geographic Society and DigitalGlobe.

UAB Launches New Bachelor of Science Degree in Digital Forensics
What identity theft, insider trading, information security breaches, cyberattacks, financial fraud and terrorism all have in common is the devices used to carry out such acts all leave behind digital “footprints.” Digital forensics is a fast-growing industry, and UAB’s new degree program combines criminal justice and computer science.

UAB Fall Commencement Ceremony, Doctoral Hooding Dec. 17
An estimated 625 students will participate in the commencement ceremony, and 745 students will graduate. The university’s highest degrees will be conferred on 79 students from 18 states and seven countries in the doctoral hooding ceremony.
