The MPA Alumni Society began the MPA Alumni Mentor Program in the Fall 2017 semester. 

Students are eligible to participate in this program as a mentee after they have completed one (1) semester in the MPA program, and must be a member of UAB’s ICMA Chapter and in good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA. 

The program length is one semester (10 weeks). During this time, students are paired with a MPA alumni mentor in a closely related field to student’s interests. The program includes:

  • Monthly career goals counseling
  • Monthly professional development advising
  • Monthly short reading and discussion to coalesce with goals
  • Tour of mentor’s organization and their role within it
  • Tutoring in career technology
  • Meetings with local career leaders

A professional development certificate will be awarded to those that satisfactorily complete the program.
