Here in the department we strive to advance theoretical and practical knowledge about the values, structures, and processes of government and policy making in the interest of the public good. We encourage students to be active members of our academic community by participating in clubs, honor societies, and internship opportunities in Birmingham and Washington, DC.

Our award-winning faculty members offer diverse theoretical and methodological approaches to Political Science and Public Administration. We have expertise in government, public policy, nonprofit management, international relations, and global citizenship. We are an academic community of dynamic scholar/teachers active in research collaborations on campus and in our disciplines.

Faculty members have been recognized for their excellence in the classroom. We have been honored for teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students by UAB and by colleagues in our professional organizations. We serve as leaders within the American Political Science Association, the International Studies Association, the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration.
