Dr. Orihuela graduated from Baylor University with a BA in Environmental Studies. Later she earned an MA in Education from University of Houston-Clear Lake and then an MS in Experimental Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She earned her PhD in Developmental Psychology from UAB where her dissertation work examined the effects of neighborhood disorder on risky sexual behaviors in adolescents and young adults.

She currently serves as the Study Coordinator for the Adolescent Diet Study, a Department of Education funded study (PI Sylvie Mrug) that investigates relationships between dietary intake, emotional functioning, and academic performance in middle school students.
