Ms. Laura Heffington Johnson, LICSW, PIP, earned her MSW from the University of Alabama in 1996 and her BSW from Freed-Hardeman University in 1991. Her previous clinical experience includes service in community mental health, in-patient psychiatry, acute medical care, and hospice care, and she taught at the community college level for 10 years. She is currently in her eighth year of employment with US Renal Care South Dialysis where she just completed her second term as the regional representative to the corporate Social Work Advisory Board.

She is a member of the Alabama Chapter of Nephrology Social Workers and has been certified by the American Kidney Fund as a Kidney Health Educator; she is a Partnering To Improve Care Coordination (PICC) coalition of central Alabama member and serves on the Community Engagement, Health and Wellness Committee; she serves on the Jefferson County Healthcare Coalition Emergency Preparedness and Response Leadership Team; and has served as a field instructor for the University of Alabama School Of Social Work’s MSW program. She volunteers with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, the Alabama Kidney Foundation, as a leader for the Moms in Prayer International organization, as a mentor for the student ministry at her church. She also organizes a group for women who have survived divorce. The native of Birmingham is now happily married again and has two daughters. She is in her fifth year as an adjunct instructor for the UAB Department of Social Work and is passionate about serving the profession by educating future social workers.
