Marc QuattlebaumMarc is our resident Properties Master and Designer. Originally from Columbia, SC, Marc holds an MFA in Scenic Design from Wayne State University (2009), and a BA in Theatre and English from Newberry College (2005), where he was recently listed as a notable alumnus. Marc has designed shows in Alabama, Mississippi, Michigan, South Carolina, and Maryland – and has worked backstage in various capacities at professional theatres in Virginia and Washington, DC. He has also taught classes in scenic design, scenery construction, painting, and intro to theatre courses both formal and informal at other institutions.

During his time at UAB, Marc earned the KCACTF Award for Excellence in Faculty Design for his properties for Lysistrata (2011). He redesigned the Stock Tour Set for UAB’s Shakespeare Tour Company, and did the scenic and property designs for UAB Tours: Six Tales from Six Continents, The Amazing Traveling Aesop Show, and Alice in Wonderland. His prop designs for UAB mainstage shows include: In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play, Twelfth Night or What You Will, Big Love, On the Verge or the Geography of Yearning, and Macbeth. He routinely aids design faculty in their classes on drawing and rendering, and helps instruct students in paint and construction techniques in practical settings. In 2014 he hosted a “Fantasy Weapons using Thermoplastics” workshop at UAB for area high schoolers.

Marc also enjoys writing. He expects to complete a technical article on designing and constructing Moving Box Puppets for Avenue Q this fall, and his short scripts Humpback and Nightmare have been produced by festivals at UAB and UWA respectively.
