More than 180 investigators, coordinators, and staff gathered in Spain Auditorium to learn how clinical trials are changing, from the rollout of PowerTrials/OnCore and i2b2 to new requirements for Good Clinical Practice, single IRB, and effort reporting.

On Oct. 21, more than 80 representatives from across the CCTS Partner Network gathered in New Orleans at Tulane University (one of 11 collaborating institutions in the network) to continue to identify opportunities to “do together what we can’t do singly,” said CCTS Director Dr. Robert Kimberly, as well as to broaden current collaborations.

Nearly 50 grad students, postdocs, and young faculty attended this CCTS Professional Skills Development Seminar, presented by editor extraordinaire Dr. Victor Darley-Usmar, vice chair for research, UAB Dept. for Pathology.

The 3rd Annual Community Engagement Institute (CEI) drew participants from as far away as Nigeria, as well as New York City, Virginia, Tennessee, and Mississippi, to join Alabamians in exploring "The Journey to Justice: Expanding the Possibilities."

More than 300 responded to the informatics needs assessment survey distributed by CCTS and the UAB Informatics Institute in Sept. Education and training, access to EHR data, assistance with high performance computing for data analysis, bioinformatics data, and clinical trial management topped the list.

Investigators at the CCTS Bioinnovation and Commercialization Pop-up Course learned the scientific method can be applied to business, including developing and testing a “start-up thesis” about their own discoveries.
