CIPES is an Interprofessional community committed to bringing together students and other learners from across campus, together with faculty and staff partners from the UAB Health System, and the community, into a cohesive and integrated system of education and training.

The following “rank” structure has been established for faculty appointments in the Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation (CIPES):

(a) SCHOLAR (awarded to faculty who have participated in activities related to the Center’s Mission). Primary appointment must be at Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor or Instructor.
(b) MEMBER (awarded to UAB Professional Staff and Community Leaders in recognition of their contributions and commitment to the field of Interprofessional Education, Simulation or Standardized Patient Education). The designation of Member is strictly related to the Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation, and should not be confused with any similar University title.


Appointments


Appointments to the Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation will be made on the basis of the outstanding quality and pertinence of the program of scholarship of the prospective faculty member and shall be considered as secondary appointments.

All such appointments must be approved by the CIPES Director.

Appointments will be for five years and are renewable on approval by the CIPES Director.


Dual Appointments


Each faculty member of the Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation must have a primary appointment in an academic department of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Each appointee will remain responsible to the Chairperson of the Department in which he/she carries a primary appointment for such departmental activities as training, administration, departmental meetings, and patient care as may be determined by arrangement between them.
