The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has partnered with Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs and the Professional Book Club Guru to create a virtual movie club for students, faculty, staff and alumni. Each month, we'll select and discuss a critically-acclaimed movie, ranging from box office hits to powerful documentaries. The movie club will connect through a private text-based forum where all participants can discuss the current movie and network with each other. Joining the club is completely free and all movie selections will be available to stream on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Why Join?

1. Elevate Your Movie Watching: Joining our movie club will expose you to impactful and important movies that you might have otherwise missed. The group will watch a range of independent films, documentaries and bigger studio productions so there will be plenty of variety.
2. Connect with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Community: Our movie club will introduce you to students, alumni, faculty and staff across generations and geographies all while gaining different perspectives on amazing movies. Through the discussion of each film, you and your fellow members will gain fresh insights and learn from each other.
3. The Power of Film: Movies allow us to experience different cultures, narratives, and ways of life that can enhance our own lives. Films can also help us learn, drive social change, and help us process difficult life lessons.

Each movie discussion will take place throughout the month giving the community ample time to share their thoughts and feedback. For example, the September 2021 forum will be open from September 1 - September 30.
