The D.M.D./M.D. Program combines the expertise of our world-class faculty in both our dental and medical schools. With this dual degree, we can prepare you for a variety of careers, such as oral and maxillofacial surgery private practice, academics, or research.

There are two tracks depending on if you have completed dental or medical school first.

The first track is based on your completion of dental school. It is six years of training after dental school. After receiving your dental degree, you will enter the oral surgery program. The first year is an oral surgery internship. During the second year of your oral surgery residency, you will begin taking medical school courses towards your M.D. degree. After fulfilling the medical school requirements, you will have an additional three years of Oral Surgery Residency. This includes a year of general surgery and an anesthesia training.

The other track is the opposite. This track is based on your completion of medical school. After completing your M.D. degree, you will begin your Oral Surgery Residency. It is seven years of training after medical school. The first year will include a year of training in general surgery and anesthesia. During the second year of your residency, you will begin taking dentistry courses toward your D.M.D. degree, which usually takes three years to complete. After fulfilling the dental school requirements, you will have an additional three years of oral surgery residency. This includes a year for the oral surgery internship.
