Dental Academic Research Training (DART)

DART provides an interdisciplinary research experience for exceptionally motivated trainees in a research-intensive collaborative academic environment.

DART’s four tracks include:

  • Track 1 – D.M.D./Ph.D. Dual Degree Program
  • Track II – Pre-doctoral Training
  • Track III – Post-doctoral Training
  • Track IV – Post-doctoral – Foreign-Trained Dentists

Trainees pursuing basic or clinical research are eligible for DART support upon admission to a UAB faculty member’s laboratory for mentor-based research training. Funding is provided by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) T90/R90 Institutional Training Grant. For more information, visit the UAB DART page.

Summer Research Partnerships

UAB School of Dentistry participates in and hosts students through several campus-based biomedical sciences summer partnerships. Students from the UAB Center for Community Outreach Development (CORD) and the UAB Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center (MHRC) are placed in the school’s various labs, giving them valuable exposure to laboratory research. Faculty are also available to mentor and provide lectures for the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Partnership Research Student Training Program (PRSTP).
