David Hays2
I serve as an Apprenticeship Supervisor for the Graduate Degree Program for Teaching English as a Second Language at UAB. I am also currently an English Tutor in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) of INTO UAB English Language Programs. I assist students with coursework consisting of reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as writing assignments and minor coursework from the student's major or area of study.

I graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Master of Arts Degree in Adult ESL Education. My undergraduate degrees are from Auburn University in History and Geography and a 2-year degree in Drafting Technology from Wallace State Community College. I am currently enrolled in the Alternative Master's Program (AMP) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Secondary Social Sciences Education. I am a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and a recipient of the Praxis Recognition of Excellence Award in Social Studies Content Knowledge.

My professional experience includes adjunct positions with Gadsden State Community College, Samford University, Jefferson State Community College, and St. Bernard Preparatory School in Cullman, Alabama. I have presented at the SETESOL 2017 conference in Birmingham and received Teacher Certification from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service.

It is my goal to help international students transition to become highly successful UAB students through not only English instruction, but also through cultural exchange and interaction. The one-on-one setting of the LRC allows me the ability to cover many subjects to help the students find balance in their campus life and academic pursuits at UAB.
