I am currently serving as an Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Education and Grant Coordinator for Project IMPACT-PD in the English as a Second Language Department. Before working at UAB, I served as an EL and Spanish teacher with Birmingham City Schools in the K-12 setting where I had the privilege of serving as instructor of our school's Spanish Club. I was a Teacher Consultant of the National Writing Project affiliate, Red Mountain Writing Project. I initially began my teaching career in Madrid, Spain where I taught English to native Spanish speakers in the adult and elementary setting.

My educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Latin American Studies from Birmingham Southern College, Dual Certification Master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and Spanish from UAB, and Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education at UAB. I was extremely honored to have been recognized as UAB's Outstanding Doctoral Student, Student of the Month and Outstanding Alumna in English as a Second Language.

Currently my research strands include: (1) family engagement practices with families of emergent bilingual and multilingual learners in the early childhood setting, (2) preparing pre-service and in-service teachers to support dual language learners and their families in the early childhood classroom, and (3) home, school, and community collaboration.

My enthusiasm for teaching is fueled by constantly challenging myself. In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis, playing piano, painting, and traveling.
