If you are looking for a career where you can make a difference, you have come to the right place. At the UAB School of Education, our faculty and staff are fueled by their dedication to excellence in research and to programs that give students the training and knowledge to enhance P-12 education, health, and wellness in Alabama and around the world.

We are teaching students how to implement innovative methods of instruction and showing them new ideas for raising the levels of achievement within underserved urban and rural school districts. And, we are preparing students to become effective leaders with the skills to produce cutting edge research and implement novel ideas that address real-world problems like health disparities, obesity, mental health issues, and illiteracy.

If you are a prospective student, I am excited to tell you about the many degree and certificate programs that our Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers. We have programs in early childhood, elementary, and secondary education, as well as reading education, special education, English as a Second Language, teacher leadership, teacher technology, and school psychometry.

The Department of Human Studies has degree programs in community health and human services, kinesiology, educational leadership, and counselor education. The department also includes faculty with expertise in  educational psychology and research, as well as in educational foundations, which looks at how culture, history, politics, and policy impacts learning and the quality of schools.

For your convenience, we provide a range of online courses and degree programs for busy students like you. You can find more information on this website.

I am proud that so many of our graduates have gone on to successful careers. Many of our alumni work daily with P-12 education and education policy; in fact, several members of our alumni have been recognized as some of Alabama’s top teachers. We also have graduates who are school and mental health counselors, health and wellness professionals, and scientists who are making new discoveries in fields like exercise physiology.

If you are a current student, this website has a Student Services page with helpful resources like the programs of study checklists. From this site, you can also keep up with academic calendars, stay informed about upcoming deadlines, find a scholarship or internship, and access the information you will need to plan your graduation.

Being the Dean of the UAB School of Education is a tremendous honor and a privilege for me. When I consider the enthusiasm of our students, the scholarship and innovation of our faculty and staff, and the knowledge and leadership that our alumni bring to P-12 education, healthcare, and research every day, I know they are changing the world.
