Fully Online Program

The Alternative Master of Arts in Education in English as a Second Language is designed for individuals who hold an undergraduate degree in a field other than education and wish to become certified teachers of ESL. 

Coursework takes a minimum of 44 semester hours to complete and includes courses in education as a profession, classroom management, grammar and linguistics for ESL teachers, phonology for second language teachers, as well as an internship in ESL. Admissions Requirements

To be considered for admission to the ESL program, applicants must meet the AMP admission requirements and attend an AMP information session. Applicants to the ESL AMP must have an undergraduate major in a language OR 32 credit hours in a language of which 19 are upper division OR a passing score on ESOL Praxis #5361. NOTE: Candidates must also have 8 credit hours of a foreign language.


Alternative Master's Program

The Alternative Masters Program (AMP) is designed for individuals who hold an undergraduate degree in a field outside of education who want to become certified teachers. Students who successfully complete the AMP will earn a master’s degree in education and be eligible for Class A certification in their specific teaching field.
