Director: Yvonne Earnshaw, Ph.D.

Dr. Yvonne Earnshaw is an Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator in the Instructional Design and Development program. She received a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Learning Systems from Florida State University with a specialization in instructional systems and human-computer interaction, an M.A.Ed. in Instructional Technology from Virginia Tech, and an M.A. in Technical Writing from Portland State University.

In addition to her academic experience, Dr. Earnshaw has over 20 years of corporate experience in technical writing, instructional design, and usability consulting and has worked for several major national and global corporations including Intel, IBM, Cisco, and Nike. Her practitioner experience helps guide her research and teaching philosophies.

  • AECT Research and Theory Division Theory Spotlight Competition: People's Choice Award (November 2021) 
    • Congratulations to Dr. Earnshaw and her colleagues, Dr. Isa Jahnke (the University of Münster in Germany), Dr. Matthew Schmidt (University of Florida), and Dr. Andrew Tawfik (University of Memphis) for winning the People's Choice Award from the AECT Research and Theory Division Spotlight Competition. Their work on Toward a Theory of Learning Experience Design (LXD) will be featured in an upcoming publication.

    • Drs. Matthew Schmidt (University of Florida), Andrew Tawfik (University of Memphis), Isa Jahnke (University of Missouri), & Yvonne Earnshaw (University of Alabama at Birmingham) are the editors of a new open-access book about learner and user experience design research. The book introduces UX and LX methods for the field of Learning Design & Technologies.
