The student teaching Program is committed to securing quality internship placement locations with master cooperating teachers and highly experienced UAB Student Teaching Supervisors. This endeavor is made possible by establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with local schools.
The collaborative relationship between the UAB School of Education and local school districts allows for a unified educational experience where theory meets practice in an inquiry-focused and standards-based internship experience.
The student teaching internship is a culminating experience in all initial teacher certification programs. The 15 week internship is intended to provide a realistic working environment where interns progressively assume full teaching responsibilities that result in at least 20 full days of teaching, including at least 5-10 full consecutive days. Cooperating teachers, mentor teachers, and UAB Supervisors act as a means of support and guidance throughout the internship experience.
