Course Description:

Understanding the components of quality online education is a critical first step toward successfully developing a quality online or hybrid course. Participants will be introduced to the eLearning course design process and begin the course design/redesign process by creating measurable learning objectives. In addition, participants will learn about the importance of aligning critical course components.

  1. Identify the components of the course design process
  2. Use Bloom’s Taxonomy of the Cognitive Domain to create or revise learning objectives that are specific and measurable
  3. Identify the Quality Matters standards for evaluating the Learning Objectives
  4. Define alignment
  5. Evaluate a sample course plan for alignment among learning objectives, learning activities, and assessments

Course Description:

This workshop covers the additional skills required for the successful delivery of online content. In this workshop, participants will discuss faculty and students misconceptions around online teaching and learning and the challenges of online content delivery. Participants will learn about the impact of the following: good course planning, components of an online course syllabus, and the importance of building online communities for students’ success. The facilitators will share tips for giving effective feedback and increasing interaction and engagement in online courses. The workshop is a great opportunity for participants to learn about the various resources and support services available through UAB.
