One of the new features in “My Media” in Canvas when embedding videos is the ability to choose whether or not you would like your students to be able to download your videos for offline viewing. Here is a guide on how to enable download.

  1. Edit your course as usual, and navigate to the “Embed Kaltura Media” button when you are ready to embed your video.
  2. You will notice a Gear icon to the left of the </> Embed button in your media.
  3. In the dropdown menu next to “Choose player” you now have the option of “Standard Player” which does not allow download, and “Player with Download Option.” Selecting the Download Player will embed the video in your course that contains a download button in the upper right corner of the video.
  4. Viewers can simply click the download button and save the MP4 video to their device for offline viewing.
  5. Videos are embedded by default with no download option enabled. If you would like to enable download for previously published videos, simply edit the course page and re-embed the video following these steps.

You can download these instructions with screengrab illustrations of the steps as a pdf.
