Research and Teaching Interests: Thermal Fluid Systems, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, and Heat Transfer

Dr. Taherian started as a Faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2010 after teaching and performing research in several other higher education institutions in USA, Canada and Iran. Dr. Taherian is interested in developing systems and devices that can help reduce electricity and water use in our houses and in industrial processes. Dr. Taherian designs and analyzes new systems through both computer simulation and experimental tests.

Dr. Taherian advises students and encourages them to compete in national and international competitions. In October 2017, Dr. Taherian's team presented their solar house in Denver, Co and ranked 5th overall, while securing two 3rd place prizes namely in Home life and energy generation contests. More than 50 students from many disciplines across UAB schools were involved in the solar house project. Learn more about the project.

Dr. Taherian uses project-based learning in teaching challenging courses such as Thermodynamics.
