New Employees
Welcome New Facilities Employees! We are glad you are here. Here are a few reminders of items you need to complete. If you have questions, speak with your supervisor or contact Facilities HR for assistance.

Facilities Welcome Day (FWD) *On hold due to COVID-19
A big hit with all new employees – all new-to-Facilities employees will be invited to attend Facilities Welcome Day (FWD). FWD was created as a result of employee requests to learn more about Facilities and has been part of the Facilities New Employee Orientation since 2016.
WHAT: FWD is a day-long opportunity to meet Facilities leaders, learn about how Facilities supports the campus and take a guided bus tour to see campus.
WHO: Employees who are newly hired, transfer from another area of UAB or who successfully transition from Temp Services into a benefited role will receive a personal invitation to attend during their first months as a Facilities employee.

Onboarding Tasks List
You must complete the online items on your Onboarding Tasks List. With your offer of employment you will receive a link to complete all items required for new employees. Sign in with your TALEO username and password and click on My Tasks List to complete the checklist, including:

- UAB Self Identification Form (Disability) and Veterans Form
- Campus Parking Information
- UAB for Me Portal
- Direct Deposit Account Initial Setup

- Biweekly Payroll Schedule
- Sign up for Premium Assistance, if applicable. UAB provides premium assistance to eligible active employees by giving a medical premium discount based on family size and total combined household income. Visit FHR or UAB Benefits for an application.
New employees will meet with their supervisor on a regular basis throughout their six month probationary period to discuss job duties and performance expectations and to answer employee questions.
There is a lot to learn about UAB, so feel free to ask your supervisor or visit the Facilities HR office. We are always glad to help our employees! -

Employee Recognition Program
The Facilities Division Employee Recognition Program aims to recognize employees who consistently exhibit the division’s Core Values and 10 Expectations – thereby reinforcing to employees the significance of these values and expectations. This effort aligns with the UAB Shared Values in Action (VIP) Award.
** All employee recognition is on hold due to COVID-19 **There are three ways to be recognized within the program:

On-the-Spot Recognition
Supervisors and Managers will give lapel pins to individuals exemplifying any of the Core Values or 10 Expectations.These individuals will also be recognized at monthly department meetings

Employee of the Quarter (EOQ)
Program will follow the Fiscal Year cycle – October-September- Any Facilities employee can nominate another Facilities employee for recognition, by:
- Online form
- Paper form in Facilities HR office
- Paper forms can also be submitted through the FACE comment boxes
- Selections will be made by the FACE Committee and Facilities HR department
The deadline to submit nominations is the 15th of the month before each quarterly selection: January, April, July, and OctoberThe announcement will be made in the Facilities Newsletter, on Digital Bulletin Boards across campus, and at monthly department meetings- EOQ benefits:
- Picture on a plaque for entire month with nameplates for 4 quarters (fiscal year), posted in the hallway outside Facilities HR all year with picture rotating each quarter
- EOQ receives small individual plaque plus reward of event tickets or coupon of choice, subject to availability
- All EOQ’s since last All-Hands Meeting to be recognized at each All-Hands Meeting
- Automatic nomination to the UAB Shared Values in Action (VIP) Award

Employee of the Year (EOY)
Selections to be made from previous four quarters’ EOQ’s by FACE Committee and Facilities HR departmentThe announcement will be made in the Facilities Newsletter, on Digital Bulletin Boards across campus, and at monthly department meetings- EOY benefits:
- Picture on plaque for entire year with nameplates for 10 years, post in hallway outside Facilities HR all year with picture rotating each year
- EOY receives small individual plaque plus reward of event tickets or coupon of choice, subject to availability
- EOY to receive additional cash award of $250 (net after taxes) in recognition of exceptional performance
- EOY to be recognized at December All-Hands Meeting
- Automatic nomination to the UAB Shared Values in Action (VIP) Award (if appropriate)
