Southeastern Higher Education Recruitment Consortium

HERC logoIn 2019, UAB joined the Southeastern Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC), which was founded in 2015 and includes the University of Alabama, Lipscomb University, Vanderbilt University, East Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee-Knoxville and other institutions. This partnership with HERC and these institutions provides UAB with new resources to aid in the faculty recruitment outreach to more diverse and inclusive candidate pools with a vision to promote equity and excellence in higher education recruitment. HERC has 700 colleges, universities, hospitals, research labs, government agencies, and related organizations who all share a commitment to hiring diverse and talented faculty, staff, and executives by advancing the ability to recruit and retain.

HERC offers job seekers free access to positions in higher education employers around the country and career advice including webinars, diversity resources, relocation resources, career news, and dual careers. HERC offers institutions an unlimited number of job postings and searchable database of applicant CVs, along with additional recruitment and retention resources. Institutions can meet regularly to discuss issues and best practices in recruitment, and they can develop collaborative initiatives and responses. HERC diversifies the pipeline of faculty, staff, and executives through outreach, advertising, and by sharing over 40,000 job opportunities and other resources and networks to boost equitable and inclusive recruitment and retention practices.

All UAB faculty recruitment postings in UAB PeopleAdmin should include a HERC category to ensure that each search takes advantage of this recruitment resource. All Faculty Recruitment plans and search strategies should include HERC as a source of outreach to a more diverse and inclusive candidate pool.

For additional information and questions about HERC, please contact the Office of the VP for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, or visit the HERC Southeastern website.
