Catherine CroweCatherine Crowe


Catherine Crowe joined UAB in July 2016 after five years in private practice in the fields of employment and employment-based immigration law. A Birmingham native, she earned her AB in History from Harvard and her MSc in the History of International Relations from the London School of Economics before graduating from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2011. She greatly enjoyed the long breaks in the English academic calendar that allowed her to walk the Camino de Santiago and explore so much of her beloved Spain. Catherine enjoys globetrotting with her archaeology-trained husband and watching international soccer with her two Chihuahuas: Felina and Rose.

Justin LampleyJustin Lampley

Associate Director for Student Services/PDSO/ARO

Justin came to UAB in December 2016 and has helped international students stay in legal F-1 and J-1 status, advising them on work authorization, enrollment, travel, and adjusting to life in Birmingham. He also currently serves on the board for the Alabama Association of International Educators (AAIE). Prior to UAB, he advised international students at Troy University in lower Alabama for over two years. Justin also taught English for four years in Busan, South Korea and during that time was able to travel throughout East Asia and Europe. In 2010, he earned a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of South Australia while living down under in Adelaide, Australia. In his free time, you can find him at local Birmingham parks with his wife and two young boys, playing golf, or watching football and basketball (Go Blazers!).

Kamonrat (Aston) ManotaiKamonrat (Aston) Manotai

Non-Resident Tax Specialist, DSO

Kamonrat Manotai (Aston) is originally from Thailand and has been with UAB since October 2016. She brings a wealth of international experience and a unique global perspective to our international community. She is a valuable resource helping internationals comply with tax laws, immigration laws, policies and procedures and monitoring the employment authorization. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree at UAB.

After graduating from Bangkok University’s International College, she worked as an International Marketing Representative in Bangkok before spending three years as a professional staff member at the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul. Aston moved to the U.S. in 2014 and worked in the Office of Affirmative Action and Equity Compliance at Northern Illinois University before coming to Birmingham. She loves spending time with her family and her two adopted cats named Tangerine and Lion (which she adopted while in Afghanistan). Aston enjoys traveling, shopping and cooking her amazing Thai food!

Sarah ScottSarah Scott

Immigration Advisor J-1, Responsible Officer, ECFMG® TPL

Sarah Scott graduated from UAB with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies in 2017. She has worked with the International Student and Scholar Services Office since 2014 and is now our J-1 immigration advisor. Sarah is responsible for J-1 Exchange Visitor programming, advising, conducting orientations, and anything that ensures our international exchange visitors and students feel at home at UAB and are successful in their programs. In addition to this, Sarah also serves as a training program liaison for J-1 physicians sponsored by ECFMG.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys cooking, playing with her two cats, and cutting/coloring hair (both hers and others!)

Lauren K. Reese

Social Media and Programming Coordinator

Lauren Reese, a California native, graduated from UAB with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies in 2018. Lauren manages the department's social media platforms, the weekly newsletter, and generates marketing materials for department events and workshops. She specializes in taking text-heavy information on immigration policy and compliance and presenting them in visually appealing and palatable ways. Social media is also a tool she uses to connect international students and scholars while giving them a platform that will inform, inspire and celebrate them. With the help of her team, Lauren is responsible for cultivating a sense of ownership and community amongst international students, scholars, and employees by planning and executing various in-office and off-campus events.

In her spare time, Lauren enjoys exploring Birmingham's food scene, attending anime and comic book conventions, and spending time with her friends.

Tracy MaxwellTracy R. Maxwell

Immigration Advisor, DSO

Tracy bring a wealth of experience to the table in the area of international student advising with regard to CPT and OPT opportunities, and international office programming. She has an entrepreneurial background and has received her Bachelor’s Degree in April of 2018 and is also currently pursuing another Bachelor’s Degree at UAB. She also helps process student’s I-20s, CPT authorization, change of status requests, and many other issues. When not helping international students, Tracy enjoys spending time with her family and attending her son’s and grandson’s sporting events.

Alyette NixonAlyette Nixon

Assistant Director for International Scholar Services, ECFMG® Training Program Liaison

Alyette is originally from France. She earned her law degree in France in 2009 and worked as an associate lawyer in private practice for five years before moving to the US with her husband in 2014.

After a year in Michigan, she moved to Alabama in 2015 and worked as a paralegal for an immigration law firm in Tuscaloosa for two years on various immigration cases (employment and family-based immigrant and non-immigrant petitions). She joined UAB in May 2017 as a J-1 Immigration Advisor and became Assistant Director for International Scholar Services in June 2019. She advises all J-1 Scholars, as well as J-1 physicians sponsored by ECFMG who are pursuing a residency or fellowship in the UAB School of Medicine. She moved back to Michigan in May 2019 with her husband and daughter and is now working remotely from there.

Alyette enjoys traveling the US and the world as much as she can, spending time with her family and her friends, and cooking.

Ashley RaineyAshley Rainey

Immigration Advisor H-1B, ARO/DSO

Ashley Rainey earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with a minor in Spanish here at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After completing her undergrad, she began as a full-time advisor at the UAB International Student and Scholar Services. During her first year, she primarily assisted with international students, as well as served as the J-1 exchange coordinator. She also created a cultural experience program, Adventure in the South, to help J-1 students and scholars meet the cultural requirement for their specific visa category. Adventure in the South is a J-1 cultural program at UAB that invites exchange visitors to venture into the beautiful outdoors and to observe historical landmarks throughout the southern region of the United States. In her 2nd year, she began her transition to the H-1B team, where she serves as the H-1B immigration advisor. She files Clinical and Academic H-1B petitions for UAB.
