Do you want to earn a graduate-level certificate in Mentoring & Leadership, Research Communication, or Teaching? Just follow these steps.

1. Apply for admission to the certificate program.


  • If you are a current graduate degree-seeking student in a UAB graduate program: Submit the "Intent to Pursue a Professional Development Certificate" form. For Area of Study, choose Mentoring & Leadership or CIRTL.
  • If you are a postdoctoral fellow at UAB: Complete and submit a nondegree application through Apply Yourself. For Area of Study, choose Postdoc Fellow. Contact the Postdoc Office ( regarding your intent to take coursework and pursue a certificate.

  • If you are not currently pursuing a graduate degree at UAB: Complete and submit a nondegree application through Apply Yourself. For Area of Study, choose Mentoring & Leadership or CIRTL.

  • International applicants who are not UAB Postdoctoral Fellows: Submit (1) official degree statement and transcript to the UAB Graduate School, LHL G03, 1720 2nd Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35294-0013


* All UAB students, including employees enrolled in coursework, must satisfy immunization requirements in order to be medically cleared for enrollment. Medical clearance requirements vary by school and student type. Please visit and select the appropriate link to the left to view the specific requirements for your program.


2. Meet with a Professional Development adviser regarding required coursework and complete your required classes


3. Submit the Application for Graduate Level Certificate


To complete your certificate for graduation, complete the application for certificate form.
