The Green and Gold Fund is UAB's innovative, student-managed investment portfolio. Based in the Collat School of Business, the Fund has developed a reputation extending beyond Birmingham and the state of Alabama, even being profiled on national television by financial news network CNBC. The Green and Gold Fund is a unique part of the Collat School of Business' emergence as a destination school for top students and faculty regionally and locally. 


Innovative Learning

Fund members perform actual investment portfolio management with real money (nearly $550,000 to be exact), providing them with valuable experience for their future careers. All Green and Gold Fund members are certified to use Bloomberg terminals and have access to the Bloomberg terminals any time of the day.

All positions on the Fund—Chief Investment Officer, Chief Economist, Chief Accounting Officer, Marketing Director, Portfolio Managers and Analysts—are held by UAB undergraduate and graduate students. Members manage a portfolio valued at approximately $550,000 by voting to buy and sell stocks, bonds, exchange-traded funds and other securities at weekly meetings.


The Fund has received national exposure by winning back-to-back national collegiate portfolio competitions in 2011, 2012, and 2013, held annually at the R.I.S.E. (Redefining Investment Strategy Education) Forum, the largest student investment conference in the world.
