Tami Long, PhD, is the Director of the UAB Employee Assistance and Counseling Center (EACC) and previously served as EACC Program Coordinator. Dr. Long works with adults, teenagers, and children and encourages the integration of positive psychology techniques and resilience-building skills when working with clients. She believes that clients who build positive emotions and character strengths are able to achieve personal goals, develop self-awareness, and overcome life challenges. Dr. Long began her human services career as an Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) Social Worker and later owned a business which provided family support services for Shelby, Madison, Jefferson, and Limestone County DHR. Before beginning employment at the EACC in 2004, she was the Clinical Coordinator for the Bessemer Boys and Girls Group Homes for Hill Crest Behavioral Health Services.

Dr. Long has 18 years of experience in the counseling profession and over 9 years of experience as a clinical supervisor within inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings. Dr. Long works with the following treatment issues: depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship concerns, trauma, adjustment issues, self-esteem, and job-related problems. Dr. Long currently teaches Introduction to Human Services and Managing Human Services Organizations in the UAB School of Education, Department of Human Studies. She recently completed the 10th Anniversary class of Blaze Leadership Academy. Her goal for the program is to enhance the lives of employees by offering quality EAP and stress management programs that support and improve one’s overall mental health and emotional wellbeing.
