UAB Human Resources is charged with the development and implementation of the Affirmative Action Program and its overall effectiveness at UAB.
The AWARE program (Always Working to Advocate, Retain & Employ) provides disability-management services when an employee’s job is affected by a physical, mental or emotional impairment. Through a partnership with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, AWARE assists current employees and their departments, job seekers going through the application process, and employees returning from long-term disability or medical leave.
Blaze Leadership Academy prepares high potential faculty and staff to take on positions of senior leadership and become the stewards of UAB’s future. The leadership development program includes assessments and feedback, team projects, expert speakers and panels, case studies, peer-to-peer consultation and networking opportunities.
UAB's neighborhood living initiative offers assistance to full-time, benefits-eligible faculty and staff who buy or renovate a primary residence in designated areas in the Five Points, Glen Iris, and North and South Titusville neighborhoods. The five-year conditional grants, funded by the UAB Educational Foundation, may be used for a down payment and/or closing costs for new purchases or renovations on an existing home.
The UAB Employee of the Month/Year Program seeks to recognize and reward non-academic personnel whose contributions to the University best exemplify the values essential to achieving UAB’s mission and vision.

The UAB Employee Wellness program provides resources and opportunities to help employees live well — from a dynamic schedule of wellness programs and initiatives, to onsite health screens that empower employees to know their numbers and live well both in and out of the workplace.
The HR Employee Excellence Awards program recognizes HR staff for their exceptional contributions to their department and UAB as a whole. HR staff may submit nominations from January 1 to November 30, and awards are presented each spring during the annual HR Service Awards reception.
UAB Learning & Development provides benefit-eligible UAB faculty and staff with premium membership to Lynda.com, a leading online learning platform with 5,000+ engaging, top-quality online courses in business, software, technology and creative skills to achieve personal and professional goals.
The OJI/Illness Program is responsible for coordination of benefits payable (medical expenses and lost wages) to any employee who may have an injury/illness sustained in the course of, and arising out of, employment at UAB.
Through the Retiree Resources program, UAB Human Resources provides retirees with tools to make their next chapter successful including Temp Services openings, volunteer opportunities, UAB retiree organizations and other services available within the UAB network.
The Service Awards program honors those employees who have made a significant career commitment to UAB. Employees' ongoing dedication to the University’s success is recognized at each five-year milestone for those who have completed five or more years of service to UAB.
