Diptiman joined the Harbert Institute in 2021 with more than twenty years of combined research experience in reproductive endocrinology, gene and cell-based cancer therapies, and aging-associated fibrotic lung disease. Diptiman earned a Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University in India investigating the mechanistic link between obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome and carried out his postdoctoral studies in UAB developing recombinant adeno-associated virus and mesenchymal stem cell-based therapeutics for bone metastatic cancers. Prior to joining the Harbert Institute, Diptiman was an assistant professor in the UAB Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine. His faculty research interests were understanding of metabolic and developmental reprogramming in the aging lung and pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. His research findings are published in high impact journals including Molecular Therapy, Clinical Cancer Research and eLife. Diptiman has also completed a Master of Science in Public Health in Clinical and Translational Science from the UAB School of Public Health. His favorite pastimes are spending time with family, watching old movies and hiking in the woods.
