Karen joined the team as a Licensing Associate in 2020 with an extensive background in life sciences and academic research. Karen received her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in France. Before joining HIIE, Karen was a post-doctoral fellow at UAB in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics before taking on research responsibilities at Emory School of Medicine. In 2011, she returned to UAB as a faculty member of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. Karen’s research focused on mechanisms of injury-repair in the lung, with a particular interest in the role of metabolic reprogramming in the etiology of pulmonary fibrosis. Karen is also a graduate of the UAB Collat School of Business, where she received a Master’s degree in Accounting. Her pastimes include taking care of her family, spending time with friends, and the outdoors.
