Skype to be retired in January 2020

UAB’s comprehensive collaboration and conferencing solution, Teams and Zoom, offers a variety of features to help you best communicate among your team members. Both are free for campus faculty, staff and students.

Now that UAB IT has implemented Teams, the legacy Skype for Business system will be phased out and will end service on Jan. 1, 2020.

If you currently use Skype for your instant messaging (IM) and online meetings, please switch to Teams for collaboration and Zoom for your online meeting needs.

Beginning in May 2019, UAB IT will begin disabling Skype accounts that have not been used in the past six months. By January 2020 all Skype accounts will be disabled and the Skype hardware removed.

Information on Teams can be found at Information on Zoom, including obtaining an account, can be found here at Zoom is offered as a free service from the University of Alabama System.
