UAB IT is composed of professionals who provide a wide range of services to support the research, academic and administrative work of the UAB community. These services include support of research computing, research administrative systems, teaching and learning, financial and human resource administrative systems, central email, networking, online educational resources and establishing a secure IT environment.

  • AskIT

    The purpose of the AskIT Help Desk is to provide first level IT support to the UAB community as a single point of contact for UAB IT. AskIT records and diagnoses issues and problems and provides feedback to second and third tier support, allowing IT to deploy fixes or changes to ensure that services provided to the UAB community are working as needed for the customers.
  • Client Services

    The mission of IT Client Services is to empower UAB’s professionals with work productivity devices and software through Desktop Support to contracted customers, Classroom Technology Support to Provost classrooms, Software and Operating System installation and patching to campus, and Mobile Device Support.
  • IT Finance and Business Services

    The mission of the IT Finance and Business Services office is to empower IT’s leaders and technology professionals with information and guidance for managing the financial and contractual components of their functions including management of IT’s chargeable services to customers.
  • IT Talent Management

    IT Talent Management serves as a strategic partner to help UAB IT achieve greater levels of effectiveness and productivity with direct assistance in Talent assessment, Leadership development, and Change management. We work as ambassadors for Central HR to ensure the efficient delivery of services HR provides. We are committed to demonstrating integrity and a positive, forward-thinking approach with the services HR offers.
  • TechConnect

    The mission of the UAB IT TechConnect store is to empower greatness in others intent on changing the world by providing high-value technology offerings with amazing service. We provide on campus support to students with limited time and transportation options; comfort to parents who get the best value, service, and alignment with the academic needs of their student; and assurance to faculty who can plan curriculum around reliable technology.

  • Application Consulting Services

    The primary goal of the UABIT Application Consulting Services is to provide application and consulting services for departments who require application development assistance or expertise, as well as access to the systems and hardware needed to support the applications. We provide these services at a greatly reduced rate over the public market for the same services. Ongoing maintenance contracts are also available that reduce overall costs for maintenance.
  • Infrastructure and Operations

    UAB IT Infrastructure and Operations provides enterprise-quality hosting services for servers, applications, and cloud services for UAB IT and distributed campus units.
  • HR/FN Support

    Oracle Human Resources and Finance technical team is primarily responsible for supporting and building extensions for the Oracle Enterprise Business Suite (EBS). Oracle EBS is an enterprise resource planning application used by University and Hospital administrative units like HR, Payroll, Cost Accounting, Accounts Payables, Purchasing, Grants Accounting, Receivables and General Accounting. The team works closely with administrative users in those areas to develop and streamline the technologies needed to support their day-to-day business processes and decision-making. The group is also responsible for maintaining vendor applications like Sunflower Asset Management system, Banner Accounts Receivables, TouchNet student cashiering and payment gateway for credit card processing and Campus Loan Manager. Additionally, the group has developed and maintains many interfaces with external partners to offer additional services to employees, including BenefitFocus for employee benefits, HealthStream for online learning, PeopleAdmin and Taleo for employee recruiting and hiring, ChipRewards for employee wellness, and many more.
  • Telecom

    The Telecommunications department is responsible for maintaining the voice and data networks campus wide. We are responsible for installing or changing voice and data services as requested by the end user. We maintain a warehouse with all equipment we support to ensure inventory is available to fulfil any request or maintenance issue.
  • User Services

    The primary goals of UABIT User Services/Identity Management are to distill all of the data available from various official sources into a single profile for each person affiliated with UAB and provide some authentication and email related services. Our functions include provisioning of some resources, maintaining the official UAB directory and phonebook, and providing assistance to individuals needing help or having issues with one of our supported services. Often these services are provided in conjunction with other groups or departments.
  • Research Administration Support

    UABIT Research Support is a dedicated IT team providing support services to the Research Administration offices. Research Support provides application management, development, reporting, and IT coordination for the Research Administration offices.
  • Student/Advancement Support

    The primary goal of the UAB IT Banner Application development team is to provide support for the Student/Advancement ERP system. The team works with numerous administrative offices across campus to develop enhancements to the overall user experience. In addition, the team develops and supports all interfaces to third party applications where student/alumni data is required.
  • Network Support

    The primary goal of the UABIT Networking group is to provide an Enterprise network service to campus as well as Internet service to the campus and hospital. We maintain and monitor the systems and hardware required to provide these services. We are responsible for the design of the wired and wifi networks located in campus buildings, and the vpn service which allows external users access to systems on campus normally blocked by the campus firewalls.
  • Research Computing

    The primary goal of the UAB IT Research Computing Services is to support High Performance Computing resources (computational servers, high-performance storage systems, high-speed research networks) and services to the university. Research Computing provides infrastructure, resources, and personnel to support UAB’s ability to achieve and maintain a leadership position in research, education, and patient care.

  • Risk Management and Compliance

    The primary goals of the Information Security Risk Management and IT Compliance services are to assist in the protection of the organization’s information assets from IT-related risk and provide guidance for IT Compliance. The key lies in developing a sustainable and repeatable information program that integrates appropriate security controls and compliance requirements to minimize our organizational security risks.
  • Security Operations

    The mission of the UAB Security Operations Center (SOC) is to monitor the University’s information security tools and technology, detect malicious cyber behavior, and respond to information security incidents at UAB.
  • Security Architecture

    The primary goal of the Security Architecture department of Enterprise Information Security is to foster an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies. The main responsibilities of the department is to manage high-level network planning, design, and optimization.
