Robert Howard is associate vice president and deputy CIO for the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has a 20-year career as a transformational leader helping organizations and individuals increase success at the intersection of technology, healthcare, academics, and business. He has worked for the University of Georgia, Miami University, Armstrong State University and UAB.

Howard also serves as adjunct faculty in UAB’s Collat School of Business.

He has a Master of Science degree in leadership and organizational change and an MBA with concentration in healthcare administration, and he is currently working on his dissertation for a doctorate in healthcare administration at UAB (expected defense June 2019). His research interests are around non-clinical and technology-based interventions to improve patient outcomes and reduce clinical office visits and cost. 

His personal mission in life is to create a healthy environment where others can reach their full potential to excel at life and contribute positively to humanity.

His wife, Casey, is a vice president of commercial real estate at Harbert Realty Services. They live in Vestavia and attend Mountain Brook Community Church. Robert and Casey have 7-year-old boy/girl twins who are thriving in the Vestavia school system and a precocious 5-year-old girl who is making the staff at Vestavia Day School earn every penny of tuition.
