UAB IT has a number of laptops acquired through CARES Act Funding and would like to offer them to UAB departments, free of charge, to replace desktops and laptops that are older than five years.  Those departments with desktops and laptops older than five years should have received an e-mail with an attachment containing the list of qualifying systems.  If your department did not receive a list or if you would like to provide a laptop for an employee whose system is not listed, have the employee visit this link to request a Staff Remote Work Laptop.

Laptops have all of the Microsoft Office applications installed and are ready for use immediately once a user logs in with their BlazerID and password. Rather than configuring the laptops for individual users, we have set them up so users can log in and access everything they need from the cloud or on campus. The Staff Techlist contains additional information about setup and support of these laptops, and other services available to every employee. Peripherals such as docking stations, monitors, cables, keyboards, and mice are available for purchase from this webpage.

Virtual desktops

The Citrix Workspace Application is also installed so that published applications and public virtual desktops can be immediately accessed through UAB Anywhere. By request, we can also set up a personal virtual desktop, which allows for the provisioning of additional resources and for the configuration of the personal virtual desktop to be retained. Both the public and personal virtual desktops provide users with access to their mapped drives and printers, and Office 365 is logged in by default for easy access to files stored in OneDrive. In the rare case that these options do not provide access to everything a user needs, the option to use VPN and/or remote into on-campus systems is also available.
