Dr. James Stu Booth

Dr. Booth completed medical school at the University of Texas at Houston, followed by residency and fellowship in Emergency Medicine at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Booth also completed a fellowship in Medical Informatics at UAB, as well as a Master of Science in Health Informatics. Since joining our faculty in 2012, Dr. Booth has worked to implement an array of automated alerts that search a patient's medical record for key information, and subsequently send messages to physicians, for both clinical and research purposes. The automated alerts aid in recognizing abnormal lab values, sets of values that indicate a specific diagnosis, and also whether a patient might meet the criteria to be enrolled in a research study. Dr. Booth is the Medical Director of the UAB Associated Clinical Operations - Medical Emergency Team (MET), which provides an organized response to medical emergencies within the hospital, for inpatients and visitors. He also is a member of the Associated Clinical Operations - Therapeutic Hypothermia Team.
