Mr. Rodgers has more than 15 years of public health and research-related experience. He completed a master’s degree in health education and health promotion at UAB in 2000, followed by a three-year public health training fellowship sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Due to the events of “9/11” and subsequent anthrax attacks, Mr. Rodgers’ early career was devoted primarily to public health infrastructure gaps and preparing for large-scale public health disasters. Mr. Rodgers returned to UAB in 2004 to coordinate bioterror-related preparedness programs and emergency management research grants awarded to the Department of Emergency Medicine. Mr. Rodgers began managing clinical research studies and public health service programs for the department in 2009. These include clinical trials focusing on early detection and prevention of septic shock, resuscitation methods for survivors of cardiac arrest, health literacy among ED patient populations, and kidney disorders. Public health programs overseen by Mr. Rodgers include ED-based HIV and Hepatitis-C screening and linkage-to-care services. Mr. Rodgers is currently responsible for more than 11 large-scale research projects or public health service awards with a combined annual direct cost total of $2 million.
