The UAB Arrhythmia Consult Teaching Service is responsible for arrhythmia consultative services; it is staffed by an Electrophysiology Attending and a Cardiology Fellow, along with a team of Internal Medicine Residents and 4th year Medical Students.

Clinical Responsibilities

Organize the patient care activities of this service under the direct supervision of an assigned Cardiology faculty member.

Essential Skills

Cardiology Fellows successfully completing this teaching service will be proficient in:

  • The diagnosis and treatment of all common cardiac arrhythmias
  • Inpatient and outpatient management of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias, ventricular tachyarrhythmias, bradyarrhythmias
  • Programming & follow-up of temporary and permanent pacemakers
  • Programming & follow-up of ICDs
  • Interpretation of intracardiac electrograms
  • Noninvasive assessment of cardiac arrhythmias, including Holter monitoring and transtelephonic monitoring
