Civitan McNulty Senior Scientist Award 2012 – 2013
Adrienne Lahti, M.D., the 2013-2014 recipient of the McNulty Scientist Award, is Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology. Dr. Lahti received her MD from the Université de Liège, Liège, Belgium followed by residencies at the Université de Liège and the University of Michigan. She was recruited to UAB in 2006 where she is now Division Director of Behavioral Neurobiology. Dr. Lahti’s research/clinical activities include the uses of multimodal brain imaging techniques (PET, fMRI, MR Spectroscopy) to study the neuropathology of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and to evaluate the effects of psychotropic drugs on brain function and biochemistry. Dr. Lahti is the director of UAB’s First Episode Schizophrenia Clinic established to provide a comprehensive response to treat teen patients after first diagnosis. There are only a few of these clinics in the country and this is the only innovative schizophrenia clinic in Alabama dedicated to treating teens immediately after first diagnosis.
