Specimen | Collect two (2) blue-stopper tubes (3.2% sodium citrate), filled to specified volume. Do not underfill or overfill. |
Specimen Management | Centrifuge blue-stopper tubes within one (1) hour of collection, separate plasma and test or quick-freeze at -70°C. |
Specimen Accepted | Daily including weekends. Specimens from outside UAB Hospital will not be sent out to reference laboratories. |

Description | The von Willebrand factor multimeric analysis is used to distinguish between types 2A, 2B and 2M. The multimer assay is suggested in follow-up to the von Willebrand profile, consisting of the ristocetin cofactor, von Willebrand factor antigen, and factor VIII activity. |
