Research Description:

The overall interests of my research program involve understanding redox signaling and how it affects metabolism in human pathologies. I am especially interested in redox regulation of specific enzymes within the Krebs cycle, and particularly how the Krebs cycle and related metabolic pathways are altered during a number of diseases. All of the projects in the laboratory rely on our expertise in redox signaling, metabolism and mitochondrial function. In atherosclerosis, we are investigating how oxidative modification of Krebs cycle enzymes prevents endothelial cells from upregulating endogenous antioxidant enzymes. In addition, we work in collaboration with investigators from the Comprehensive Diabetes Center and the O’Brien Core Center for Acute Kidney Injury Research on a number of projects involving metabolic dysregulation.
