Clinical Op Web

In collaboration with the UAB Office of Interprofessional Simulation for Innovative Clinical Practice (OIPS), the DOM trained 287 healthcare providers on the appropriate use of personal protective equipment this week. Using the Zoom digital meeting platform, Andres Viles, MSN, RN, demonstrated the donning and doffing procedures to remote participants. Though actual PPE was not used, the simulated walk-through of procedures will enhance the safety of our front line. Thanks to all who trained, and who made this training possible!

On March 4, the Department of Medicine held its annual Trainee Research Symposium for residents, fellows, graduate students, and post-docs. There were approximately 66 abstracts submitted, each an example of the rigorous science and research they conduct daily. Congratulations to all our amazing trainees across the department!

DOM physicians Drs. Ellen Eaton and Carlie Stein organized an ongoing PPE drive at the Homewood Library, an effort that grew out of a Facebook group for Birmingham Physician Moms. They share supplies with local clinics and practices, and the rest are brought to the Alabama Department of Public Health dropoff. Kudos!
