CY newsflash Cynthia Y. Johnson has been selected as the Department of Medicine Employee of the Month for August 2017!

Cynthia Y. Johnson has been selected as the Department of Medicine Employee of the Month for August 2017! Cynthia Y. Johnson is the Co-Director of the Recruitment and Retention Shared Facility in the Division of Preventive Medicine. She was notified today by Jason Daniel, DOM Executive Administrator.

Since coming to UAB in 2001, Cynthia Johnson has been a major driver in the success of the Recruitment and Retention Shared Facility (RRSF) and has helped to oversee the development of the facility from a largely internal recruitment resource to one that offers a multitude of services, including patient navigation and qualitative data collection to investigators across UAB.

Her nominations speak eloquently to her character and abilities. Dr. Raegan Durant writes,

“Cynthia Y. Johnson approaches every effort with a mantra that ‘failure is not an option’… For faculty, having Cynthia onboard on a project means that you have the utmost technical expertise in getting the project completed with the reassurance that all personal interactions conducted by Cynthia, on your behalf, will be undertaken with comparable care and attention to detail. As a team leader she has the remarkable ability to motivate all team members to approach their respective tasks and responsibilities with the same level of commitment.”

The nomination from Dr. Mona Fouad included,

“Cynthia is uniquely talented in that she can see the overarching goals of a research project and help design the specifics of how to implement the project to accomplish those goals. She is a superb resource to investigators in helping them develop effective recruitment plans and her creativity in designing recruitment initiatives, as well as study implementation procedures is a wonderful talent…

Ms. Johnson is an extraordinarily dedicated employee. She recently coordinated a new initiative to conduct employee wellness screens on behalf of Employee Wellness at various sites on campus. Cynthia approached the task with dedication and determination to succeed. Her hard work and efforts in coordinating the staff needed to conduct the screens, publicizing the screening events, and managing the flow of employees at the events resulted in over 2200 UAB employees receiving important information related to their health, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, BMI and triglyceride readings. Without Cynthia’s persistence and dedication to the job at hand, this project would not have been such a tremendous success.

Cynthia comes to work early, stays late and works on weekends (when needed) to ensure the recruitment goals of a study are met. She travels to rural Alabama, northern Alabama and Mississippi to assist other staff with recruitment and community efforts. She willingly takes on tasks outside her job description to ensure project goals and study tasks are met – never complaining and always demonstrating an eagerness to learn new things and expand her skillset.”

“CY”, as she is affectionately known in the Division, understands the importance of being the face of UAB in her interactions in the community and with research participants. She always approaches people and situations with a kind heart, genuinely caring nature, and willingness to go the extra mile.

Cynthia embodies the core values of the DOM Mission and is an example of what helps make the DOM great!!

Please join us in congratulating Cynthia for being selected as Department of Medicine Employee of the Month for August 2017! A reception will be held in his honor on Tuesday, September 12 at 12:00 noon in MT 634.
