re DOPM Passwords....
How to choose your first; how to reset if expired; and how to change it

For all the folks working remotely now ...due to COVID-19 (or other reasons)

Your short instructions for how to change your password remotely are:
While remoted into the DOPM computer that you normally use....
(1) Hold down <Ctrl> + <Alt> keys and press <End> key once.
Note: Be sure to press <End> (NOT <Delete>).
(2) Then click “Change a password”, and follow instructions.
For any additional needs regarding that, see Tab 3 below.

If you received an email indicating your DOPM password will be expiring soon, please go straight to the 3rd tab below, entitled "(3)Change password Before it Expires".

  1. If you are new and have just received your "starter password" and "Server Account form", click the 1st tab below to pick your first password.
  2. DOPM passwords expire approx every 4 months.  If yours has expired, click the 2nd tab below.
  3. If your DOPM password has not yet expired, but you want to change it for whatever reason (including because it's going to expire soon), click the 3rd tab below.

To remote into it (or into ts4.dopm.uab.edu) you will either need to be on UAB campus or you will need VPN software connected.

If you want to do it yourself... Keep reading...

Normally, the way an encrypted laptop works is:
Once we at dopmHelp have "added you to the encryption", your DOPM password will get you through 2 "locks" (using the same password) via a technique called "Single Sign on".  The two locks are:
  • (a)the gray screen (the encryption screen) which protects the stuff in the computer (c:drive and desktop) by scrambling it.
  • (b)connecting to the DOPM network, so you can access the network (i.e., stuff on network drives, which are H:Drive thru Z:drive)
So when you change you have to change the password in 2 spots.
  1. For what I describe as (b) above, change it the normal way (Ctrl+Alt+Delete)
  2. Then, for what I describe as (a) above, you have to force that to change by doing these steps:
    1. PGP
    2. PGP Desktop
    3. Tools
    4. Synchronize All Keys
    5. Restart
