UAB partners with local organizations to launch Parks Prescription program in Birmingham.

According to Mona Fouad, MD, MPH (Director, Preventive Medicine) only 25 percent of American adults get the recommended amount of physical activity, and 29 percent don’t engage in any leisure-time physical activity at all. To address this health problem, Birmingham REACH for Better Health, under the UAB Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center recently launched Parks Rx, a program where healthcare providers literally prescribe exercise for their patients and direct them to local parks and outdoor spaces to get moving.
