Biography
Dr. Kessler obtained his BS in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This was directly followed by his Doctor of Osteopathy at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed an Internal Medicine Internship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL followed by a combined Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, WV. He completed his training at UAB in the Critical Care Anesthesia Fellowship. He was Chief Resident of the Emergency Medicine Residency during his final year in West Virginia and also served as Chief Fellow during his fellowship training. He practices Emergency Medicine and Critical Care at UAB where he splits his time in the ED and the ICU. Dr. Kessler has developed an ED-ICU and Emergency Critical Care consult service. He also serves on the Quality Variance and Critical Care committee at UAB, as well as holds a position on the American Heart Association’s Emergency Cardiovascular Care Committee Systems of Care Subcommittee. He also attends on the Therapeutic Hypothermia Service providing care for those suffering from cardiac arrest. His research interests include E-CPR and Critical Care delivery in the Emergency Department. He has been a faculty member at UAB for six years, and is supported by his wife Amy and three kids.
