UAB Center for Exercise Medicine hosted its 7th Annual Symposium at the UAB Hill Student Center Ballroom on September 13, 2019. This year's keynote speakers featured  Gretchen Reynolds, Phys Ed Columnist for the New York Times Well blog and author of the New York Times bestseller "The First 20 Minutes", and Stuart Phillips, PhD Director of McMaster Centre for Nutrition, Exercise, and Health Research, Canada.

Pre-symposium Events:

A Science Communication workshop led by the symposium's keynote speaker Gretchen Reynolds, Lori McMahon, PhD, Dean, UAB Graduate School and facilitated by Marcas Bamman, PhD, Director of REACT and UCEM was conducted on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the UAB Hill Student Center Alumni Theater. 

NIH National REACT Center Clinical Trials Workshop was conducted on Thursday, September 12, 2019. This workshop addressed challenges and opportunities for impactful clinical trials in medical rehabilitation, such as:

- Trial design
- Issues in recruitment and retention
- Mobile technology integration
- Multi-modal interventions
- Control groups
- Response heterogeneity
- Rigor reproducibility
- Data and safety monitoring
