Down syndrome, the most common of all genetic conditions associated with developmental delay, occurs in approximately one out of every 800 live births and can cause challenges in physical, intellectual, and language development. In addition to challenges, individuals with Down syndrome also experience benefits from having the diagnosis. Benefits can include having an excellent memory, enjoying social interaction, having strong self-esteem and self-respect, having rich fantasy lives, and being reliable employees.
